My favourite scene of Speed is the ending of the film, when Dennis Hopper whos plays Howard Payne kidnaps Annie, Jack comes to rescue Annie but is confronted with Annie strapped with explosives and Howard standing near by with a detonator. Annie is handcuffed to a pole and is left alone while Jack and Howard struggle on top of the train. The effects that are used in this film for the explosions are very effectivly as it makes it look realistic. For example, Howards prop which is the detonator is a significant symbol, as it represents danger,
as soon as the audience see the prop they automatically know Payne is going use his detonator to cause harm to someone. The film also focuses on rivals in this case Jack and Howard are binary opposites, as Jack is the good officer who has good deeds whereas Howard is potraid as the vilan.
